Ibon Uribarri has won the Jokin Zaitegi translation competition

Under sponsorship of the prize, he will translate Nobel Prize winner Herta Müller’s latest novel, Atemschaukel (Everything I Possess I Carry With Me)

Ibon Uribarri has won the Jokin Zaitegi translation competition, and will use the award money to translate the latest novel, Atemschaukel (Everything I Possess I Carry With Me; Basque title, Arnasaren kulunka) by last year’s Nobel Prize winner, Herta Müller. The Jokin Zaitegi Prize was established by the AED Association and the publishing house Elkar, and the winner receives funding to translate into Basque a book by the most recent winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. Last year’s winner was Luis Berrizbeitia, who translated 2008 Nobel winner J.M.G. Le Clezio’s novel, Desert, into Basque under the title Basamortua. The book was published by Elkar, and the same publishing house will also publish Uribarri’s translation by the end of this year.
