Alex nire munstro-lagun on-ona (Alex, my best monster friend), written and illustrated, respectively, by Mikel and Maite Gurrutxaga, has won the Etxepare Prize for Children’s Works. The panel of judges included writers Patxi Zubizarreta and Miren Agur Meabe, and illustrators Mikel Valverde and Aitziber Alonso, who awarded the prize to this story of the relationship between a little girl and her invisible friend.
A total of eight projects were submitted for consideration for the 6,000-euro prize, which is intended to encourage the rights of authors and illustrators.
The winning work will be published in 2010 in Basque by Pamiela, and in Spanish and Galician by Faktoria K de Libros.
