The annual Edinburgh (Scotland) International Book Festival is the largest of the international literary festivals. This year’s festival will take place on August 11-27. Eight hundred writers from all over the world will be in Edinburgh and there will be more than 750 events during the week. Basque writer Bernardo Atxaga will also be in attendance. On August 19 at 6:45 pm in the Peppers Theater, he will give a talk on his most recent novel, Zazpi etxe Frantzian (Seven Houses in France), entitled “Desire and Corruption: The Colonial Story.” The English translation of the novel was published a few months ago. Poets, novelists, scientists, philosophers, sportsmen, sculptors, musicians, economists, Nobel Prize winners, historians, ecologists…people of all types will gather at this enormous Scottish festival, all for the same purpose: for readers and writers to come together for friendly debate, and to exchange thoughts and ideas.
